As an Austin attorney specializing in adoption, Suzanne Bryant believes that that anyone who wants to provide a loving home to a child should have that opportunity. For some couples, the birth of a child is a natural process. However, for others, such as infertile couples, single people or lesbians and gay men, becoming a parent is a difficult legal and emotional task. As an adoptive parent, Suzanne has experienced the emotional roller coaster involved in deciding to have a child and the confusion created by the overwhelming amount of information.
In addition to handling all legal aspects of private adoptions, Suzanne provides legal services related to other parenting options such as donor insemination and surrogacy. Suzanne also prepares legal documents to stabilize families such as wills, powers of attorney, living wills and parenting agreements. Every family’s needs are different, and she tries to tailor her advice for each unique situation.
Prior to attending Duke Law School, Suzanne was a professional mediator for the University of Kansas and in private practice. Suzanne has authored articles in publications such as Mediation Quarterly and The Duke Journal of Gender Law and Policy. She is a former Co-Chair of the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association and received the “Outstanding Legal Advocate” award from the Texas Human Rights Foundation in 1997.

Tax Credit Pays for Adoption
In most second-parent adoptions, the Federal Adoption Tax Credit pays 100 percent of the costs reasonably associated with the adoption, including the home study, legal fees, and travel to an out-of-town hearing. If your family does not qualify for the credit (for example, if the adoptive parent does not pay taxes) ask your attorney for a discounted fee.
